(Day 14) Are you at the bottom of a pit?

The Bible often talks about his servants who find themselves in the bottom of a hole or pit. It really is not fun because you cannot do anything to pull yourself out. And you suffer from loss of your freedom, lack of light, and sometimes wild animals.

Take the example of Joseph who was thrown into a pit

Let’s take the example of Joseph. His brothers threw him in a pit for two reasons:

Joseph thrown into a pit
Joseph was thrown into a pit

1) Because he was the favorite son of his father. Everyone could see it because he had a beautiful multicolored robe that he was the only one to receive. So the other brothers were jealous.

2) And also he kept boasting of the visions he said God gave him where he saw his whole family bend their knees before him.

Even though it was going to become reality, for the moment his brothers threatened to kill him. So it is not always a good idea to boast in your testimony of what God has given you. Because that can provoke jealousy and give the impression that you are belittling others. (not on purpose of course)… He is acting as if he is more spiritual than us because God talks to him.

It took years of spiritual education before God pulled him out of his hole (prison) and had him rise to the summit of Egypt. (Genesis chapters 39-47)

God will accomplish the vision and the Word He gave you Dieu. But this miracle may take some time to prepare you. You have probably seen the sign :

The urgent is done, the impossible is in progress, for miracles expect a 48-hour delay

Jeremiah the prophet who thrown in the pit because of his ministry

And then there is Jeremiah the prophet. He was also thrown into a pit to silence him. Because he proclaimed the Word of God that did not at all please the authorities. The only result was that no one listened to him, and he found himself at the bottom of a pit. And he had to survive with the prisoner’s menu of water and dry bread.

Have you experienced being rejected and set aside to silence you?

I called on Your name, O Lord,
From the lowest pit.
56 You have heard my voice:
“Do not hide Your ear
From my sighing, from my cry for help.”
57 You drew near on the day I called on You,
And said, “Do not fear!” (Lamentations 3.55-57)

Daniel the man of no compromise

Then there was Daniel, the leader of the government in Babylon. He refused to compromise his faith in God though he knew his enemies were trying to make him fall into their trap.

The wicked counselors of the king persuaded him to make a law that no one could make a request to another god than him. Since Daniel continued to pray 3 times per day to the only true God, they threw him into the lion’s den.

The king could not change the law, but he was exceedingly sad that he had been trapped into getting rid of his Prime Minister.  The king said to Daniel, “May your God, whom you serve continually, rescue you!” (Daniel 6.16)

And his deliverance from the lion’s den was a powerful testimony of God’s Presence at the summit of the most powerful and terrible kingdom of that time. So much so, that the king had to admit:

«  God rescues and he saves;
    he performs signs and wonders
in the heavens and on the earth.
He has rescued Daniel
from the power of the lions.” (Daniel 6.27)

And it is not because you are in the pit (even if it is your own fault) that God cannot:

  • Accomplish His promises for you like He did for Joseph
  • Make sure that His message is heard for hundreds of generations like he did for Jeremiah.
  • And deliver you from your enemies and transform your experience into a powerful testimony before the powers of this world like he did for Daniel.

In that case, will you accept your descent into the pit as long as God is with you?

Your witness will be like that of David :

(Psalms 40:1-3)  I waited patiently for the Lord;
he inclined to me and heard my cry.
He drew me up from the desolate pit,
    out of the miry bog,
and set my feet upon a rock,

    making my steps secure.
He put a new song in my mouth,
a song of praise to our God.
Many will see and fear,
and put their trust in the Lord.

You see, you are in good company!
