(Day 6) Does Your Boat need Jesus in it?

Everyone knows about the miraculous catch of fish that Peter had. All he did was make his boat available so that Jesus could teach the crowd without being pushed into the lake.

“He (Jesus) got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little from shore. Then he sat down and taught the people from the boat”. Luke 5:3

Everyone knows about the miraculous catch of fish that Peter had. And every professional fisherman would like to have that kind of answer to prayer! But you may notice that Peter didn’t ask for anything.

All he did was make his boat available so that Jesus could continue teaching the crowd. He first used his boat to meet Jesus’ needs. And then Jesus spread his blessing over Peter’s fishing company.

Ordering priorities

That is the order of what Jesus teaches. Seek first the kingdom…then all these other things will be given too.

Matthieu 6:33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.

So we notice opening our business, our activity, or house to the presence of Jesus can have an effect on our personal success. Have you invited Jesus into your boat yet?

In the case of Peter, everything started with failure. « We’ve worked hard all night and haven’t caught anything.» (Luke 5.5)

A blessing for your boat starts with a failure

This shows us what we need to do when all has failed and when our best effort is not enough. After all, Peter knew his job and that the best time to let down the nets was at night. But with Jesus in his boat, a corner of heaven can come down in your circumstances at any hour of the day.

If you are in a similar situation and your best effort has not been enough, listen to his voice. He has probably already said what needs to be done to push forward His kingdom.

Take care of God’s business (without neglecting your responsibilities down here). Even if His instructions seem to be counterintuitive.

Create a favorable environment to receive His blessing:

  • Invite Jesus into the center of your life, in your home or business. Like they say in the Navy « Permission to come on board» ?
  • Have faith in His goodness
  • And above all, obey even if the instruction seems counter intuitive.

Allow God to do a miracle for you.
