The Bible says, “The trial of your faith is worth more than gold and silver“. This may not be the Word you want to receive when you have need dollars to stave off the bank man!
But, believe it or not, there is a reason for everything you are going through.
1 Peter 1:7 so that the genuineness (trial) of your faith—being more precious than gold that, though perishable, is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed.
The trial of our faith allows us to put into practice His word
The way we handle our trials with faith will result in glorifying the work of Jesus Christ in our lives. What use is it to believe God’s Word is true if we don’t grab the opportunity to put it into practice?
For God, our faith (trusting Him in impossible situations), is worth more (to Him) than all the gold in the world. How much gold would you need to buy someone’s trust? It is the proof for anyone who would have a doubt, that it is possible to walk on this earth by faith in His Word and not just by sight.
The Trial that an entrepreneur went through
For an entrepreneur, practicing the walk by faith is necessary every day. Steve worked in renovation and was lacking a big sum of money in his bank account. He was often on the edge of the cliff. And he was an expert in « brinkmanship ». Unfortunately, he had to get over some bad deals with other entrepreneurs he worked for who went bankrupt. Also, there were clients who paid late because they had insurance issues.
One Saturday morning, he received a letter from his bank that they were going to close his account (and cancel his bank card and checkbook) if he didn’t put a significant amount of money on his account Monday morning at 8.00 a.m.
For Monday morning ?! It’s impossible! He would never have enough time to revisit clients and ask them to pay. And since the bank was closed Monday morning no payments would appear until Tuesday.
So he took the letter with him as he went for his Sunday evening prayer walk in the forest close to his home. He opened it before God, saying « I am powerless against this situation that came against me. I do not know what to do, but my eyes are on you.” (2 Chronicles 20.12)
Suddenly a thought went through his mind
And suddenly a thought came to his mind: « The trial of your faith is worth more than gold or silver»
“Is that what I need to say to the banker Monday morning”? Steve asked God.
« I don’t have the money you are asking me for but in exchange, I’ll give you the “trial of my faith”. It appears that it is worth more than gold or silver… »
When he got back home, he started to write a letter to put in the bank’s mailbox early Monday morning.
But sometime during the night (Sunday to Monday) a big amount arrived and was credited to the account! (Never before a wire appeared on the account a Monday morning). God had made sure the wire was sent before the letter was put into the mailbox at the bank!
That is what the prophet Isaiah says on behalf of God :
“Before they call I will answer,
while they are yet speaking I will hear.» (Isaiah 65.24)
What is your trial today? What seems to be totally impossible?
Of course, there are not just personal or business financial trials. There are betrayals, being abandoned, and medical outcomes that, when announced, paralyze with fear.
Do you remember that Sunday school song?
“Trust and obey,
For there is no other way,
To be happy in Jesus,
But to Trust and Obey”.
Open the letter before God?
Of course, God knew what was in that letter so there was no real reason to open it before Him. But King Hezekiah did that very thing when he received a nasty and insulting letter from an Assyrian general who was besieging Jerusalem.
“ Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers and read it; then Hezekiah went up to the house of the Lord and spread it before the Lord”. (2 Kings 19.14)
So you can do the same with the message that is threatening you and your family. What an occasion to glorify God with your faith and trust in Him!
